Chicago O'Hare ORD Airport Parking Guide

Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) is one of the busiest airports in the world, serving as a primary hub for United Airlines and American Airlines and connecting travelers to over 200 destinations. With four terminals, nine runways, and millions of travelers each year, parking at ORD fills quickly — especially during peak holiday and summer travel. This guide compares every parking option at O'Hare, from on-airport lots to off-airport facilities with free shuttles, starting from just $16/day when you pre-book through ParkON.

Compare & Reserve ORD Parking

Outline

Why Pre-Book ORD Parking

O'Hare is consistently ranked among the world's busiest airports by aircraft movements, and that traffic extends to parking. On-airport garages routinely sell out during Thanksgiving, winter holidays, and summer travel weeks. Pre-booking locks in a guaranteed spot and a published daily rate — typically well below the drive-up price.

Off-airport lots near ORD also tend to cost less than the airport's own economy lot, include a free shuttle to all terminals, and can be reserved in minutes through ParkON's ORD search. Most travelers save 30–60% off on-airport rates by going off-airport.

Tip: ParkON recommends arriving at your chosen lot at least 30 minutes before you want to be at the airport terminal. That buffer covers the shuttle ride plus any short wait at check-in and keeps you on schedule for your flight.

ORD Parking Options at a Glance

Chicago O'Hare has several on-airport parking areas operated by the Chicago Department of Aviation, plus independent off-airport lots within a few miles of the terminals. Here's how they compare at a high level:

Parking Type Best For Distance from Terminal Shuttle
Hourly / Short-Term Drop-offs & quick pickups Adjacent to Terminals 1, 2, 3 No
Main Parking Garage 1–2 day trips Walking distance to Terminals 1, 2, 3 No
Terminal 5 Lot / Garage International departures & arrivals Adjacent to Terminal 5 ATS people-mover
Economy Parking Lot (Lot G) Budget on-airport option Further from terminals; free shuttle Yes
Off-Airport Lots Best value; 3+ day trips Within about 4 miles; free shuttle Yes

On-Airport Parking at O'Hare

The Chicago Department of Aviation operates the on-airport parking at ORD. Rates and lot availability are set by the airport and updated periodically — always confirm on the official O'Hare parking page before you go.

Main Garage & Terminal Lots

The Main Parking Garage sits directly between Terminals 1, 2, and 3, making it the closest option for domestic travelers who want a short indoor walk to check-in. Hourly and short-term levels are priced for quick stops; daily rates apply for overnight stays.

Terminal 5 Parking

Terminal 5 (the international terminal) has its own adjacent parking lot and garage. Under ORD's expansion, the Airport Transit System (ATS) people-mover connects Terminal 5 to the Main Garage and Terminals 1, 2, and 3, so travelers can park on the domestic side and ride over to Terminal 5 if preferred.

Economy Parking Lot (Lot G)

Lot G is O'Hare's long-term economy lot, with a continuous free shuttle to the terminals. It's the cheapest on-airport option and the best choice for travelers who want to stay on airport property for longer trips.

For short-term parking visits, the main parking garage is the closest parking option adjacent to the domestic terminals. The main garage accommodates hourly and daily visitors. Lot A in the main garage is reserved for valet parking, hourly parking, and daily parking on levels 2-6. Hourly rates at the main garage start at $3 and can reach $43 for the day.

Additional daily parking is also available in Lots B and C to accommodate passengers that want to be conveniently close to the domestic terminals. Daily parking starts at $3 for the first hour and reaches a $43 daily maximum.

Economy Lots F, G, and H are popular amongst travelers that require longer parking stays. The daily rates at the O'Hare Economy lot are cheaper than the rates at the Main Parking Garage. Passengers who park at the Economy lots can board the Airport Transit System (ATS) for free direct access to the terminals. For travelers that prefer covered parking, Lot F is the only economy lot that has covered parking available. The economy lots are located on Bessie Coleman Drive and Zemke Rd. Comparable to off-site parking, economy lot rates range from $16 to $30 per day.

Terminal 5 at ORD airport facilitates international flights and has its own parking facility. Vehicle parking is located in Lot D adjacent to the international terminal. Parking rates start hourly at $3 and range to go upwards to $43 a day.

Off-Airport Parking Near O'Hare

There are roughly eight independent lots within about four miles of O'Hare that ParkON works with. All provide free shuttle service to the terminals, and five offer valet service. Many are clustered along Mannheim Road between the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) and West Irving Park Road; others sit along North River Road and Lawrence Avenue on the north side of the airport.

Popular off-airport lots bookable through ParkON include:

Getting Between Terminals 1–5

O'Hare has five passenger terminals. Terminals 1, 2, and 3 handle most domestic flights and are connected to each other and to the Main Garage via indoor walkways. Terminal 5 (international) sits across the airfield and is served by the ATS people-mover, which runs 24/7 between Terminal 5, the Multi-Modal Facility, and the Main Garage area. Terminal 4 is a bus-only facility used for shuttles.

Which Terminal Does Your Airline Use?

Airline terminal assignments at ORD change periodically, so confirm with your carrier before you head to the airport. In general:

  • Terminal 1 — United Airlines and most Star Alliance partners
  • Terminal 2 — Delta, Air Canada, and several domestic carriers
  • Terminal 3 — American Airlines, Alaska, JetBlue, Spirit
  • Terminal 5 — most international arrivals and departures (and some domestic flights that have shifted during construction)

ORD Cell Phone Lot & Pickup Tips

If you're picking someone up at O'Hare, the Cell Phone Lot on Bessie Coleman Drive (just south of the Economy Parking Lot G) is the right place to wait. It's free for a limited time and has a live arrivals display so you can time your drive to the terminal curb. From the Cell Phone Lot, drivers have direct access to the Kennedy Expressway and can enter the airport's arrivals level once their passenger is ready.

Booking, Cancellation & Arrival Tips

  • Book ahead. Both on-airport and off-airport rates are lowest when reserved in advance. Walk-up travelers pay the highest price — and risk finding lots full during peak travel.
  • Budget for the full stay. Off-airport lots bill by the day with a small 1–2 hour grace period. A 49-hour stay counts as 2 days; a late return is settled at the lot gate at that lot's posted rate.
  • Plan shuttle time into your arrival. ParkON recommends being at your parking lot at least 30 minutes before the time you'd like to be inside the terminal. Give yourself extra time in winter when Chicago weather can slow shuttles.
  • Flexible cancellation. Most ParkON reservations can be cancelled for a full refund up to 24 hours before your scheduled arrival. Cancellations inside 24 hours are refunded minus the service fee; no refund applies after your scheduled arrival time. Certain lots are non-refundable — see cancellation details for the full policy.
  • ParkON is an independent reservation service. We don't operate shuttles or lots — we help you compare, reserve, and save at trusted off-airport facilities near ORD and across the country.
